Comme évènement de rentrée, nous organisons le mercredi 12 Septembre un cocktail/discussion media sur le thème "Les 100 premiers jours de Sarkozy vus par la presse anglaise".

A cette occasion nous aurons le plaisir de compter parmi nous deux journalistes de renoms:

• Jonathan Fenby, ancien correspondent France pour The Economist et auteur de "On the Brink: The Trouble with France"
• 
  ainsi que Jon Henley, ancien rédacteur en chef du bureau parisien du Guardian. (Voir bios ci-dessous).

Le cocktail se tiendra au Royal Automobile Club et une participation d'environ £35 sera demandée.

Diner avec Richard Descoings

Chers amis,

Comme indiqué lors de nos dernières rencontres, nous avons invité Richard Descoings, Directeur de Sciences Po, à venir dialoguer avec nous à Londres; nous sommes ravis de vous confirmer qu'il a accepté et que nous aurons l'opportunité de le rencontrer le 2 mai prochain.

Le thème du diner est le titre de son livre publié récemment "Sciences Po: de la Courneuve à Shanghai", mettant en perspective l'expérience de Sciences Po dans le contexte d'une réforme de l'éduction en France; le diner sera suivi d'une séance dédicace.

Relations between the US and the EU (and notably France) have been strained in recent years with disagreements over issues ranging from the Iraq-war to the Kyoto Protocol and the International Criminal Court.

Is it a sign of growing divergence of values, as some argue, or is it only a difficult time in an otherwise well-functioning relationship?

The Middle East: the key to world peace?

At the Institut Français (the conference will be held in English)

Samir Kassir (1960-2005) was one of Lebanon’s best-known journalists, academics and historians. A prominent activist, he was a strong advocate of freedom for the Palestinians, democracy in Lebanon and Syria and a vocal critic of the Syrian presence in Lebanon. He was assassinated on 2 June 2005 and his assailants remain unknown…In ‘Being Arab’ (Verso, November 2006) (‘Considérations sur le Malheur Arabe’, Actes Sud, novembre 2004), he investigates the huge impact of modernity on the Arab world, and the accompanying shockwaves that turned society upside-down.Drawing on Samir Kassir’s views on the “Arab malaise”, the debate will concentrate on the current crisis in Lebanon and the Middle East, and will explore ways to come to terms with an everlasting tragedy.
